FUSHICHO MARCO

Fushicho Marco, aka Marco the Phoenix, is the commander of the 1st division of the Whitebeard Pirates, and the acting captain after Whitebeard's death. A member of the Whitebeard Pirates since at least age 15, Marco is one of the most powerful members of the crew as well as being the ship's lead doctor. At some point found and ate the Tori Tori no Mi Model: Phoenix, a Zoan type devil fruit that gives allows him to transform into a blue-flamed phoenix. As a highly practiced Zoan user, he can transform parts of his body while keeping others in their human forms. Most commonly, he turns his arms into wings in order to fly, while still retaining his mostly human body. Due to the phoneix's power of rebirth, the blue flames he radiates posesses incredibly potent healing powers, which allow him to almost instantly recover from practically any attack. These flames can heal others, although they are signifigantly less potent.

As a member of the Whitebeard Pirates for over thirty years, Marco is incredibly close with his fellow crewmates. However ironically, the three crewmates he was closest to would all die in the span of about two years. First Thatch (the fourth division captain and Marco's closest friend) was killed by Blackbeard, then Ace (the second division commander who Marco took under his wing after he joined up) and Whitebeard (Marco's captain and the man he called his father) both died at the battle of Marineford. These were the few times we saw Marco's incredibly level-headed nature lapse, as he and the rest of the crew were witnesses to all three deaths.

After aiding the Strawhat Crew at the battle of marineford and the liberation of Wano country, Marco effectively retired from his life of piracy, deciding to instead act as doctor and protector of Sphinx; the town where Whitebeard grew up and the location of both Ace's and Whitebeard's graves. Despite Shanks repeatedly asking him to join his crew (a running theme as Shanks insisted on Marco joining his future crew when he was simply a shiphand on Gold Rodger's ship). Marco still refused, insisting that he was getting too old to protect a crew as large as Shank's.

He is often jokingly referred to as a pineapple due to his spikey blond hair & mostly shaved head, which is a reference to an old japanese writing of the word pineapple being hori (鳳梨) or "phoenix pear". As a reference to this, Marco's favorite food is pineapple and one of his attacks contains the word pineapple (although different kanji are used). One of his most iconic traits is his unique speech habit of ending most sentences with the meaningless tic "-yoi" (～よい) e.g. "arigatō-yoi" (ありがとうよい) or "mattero-yoi" (待ってろよい). His birthday is October 5th and his hobby is collecting bar coasters.
